The problem

A customer contacted Power Poles NSW after their ageing private power pole suffered severe corrosion at the base and unexpectedly collapsed. The fallen pole brought the live three-phase overhead service down onto a public roadway, creating a significant electrical hazard for passing traffic and pedestrians. To ensure public safety, Ausgrid attended the site immediately and isolated the electricity supply until the damaged infrastructure could be safely replaced.

Our emergency response team mobilised immediately, arriving on site with specialised lifting equipment and vehicles to restore the customer’s power as quickly and safely as possible. After removing the failed pole, we installed a new galvanised steel power pole designed to provide decades of reliable service with minimal maintenance. Due to challenging ground conditions, our team completed precision core drilling through solid rock to establish a secure foundation before installing the new pole.

The project also included the installation of a new three-phase overhead service connecting the Ausgrid network to the customer’s property. Once all testing and compliance requirements were completed, we rectified the customer’s defect notice and restored power safely.

Despite the complexity of the emergency works, the entire project – from power loss through to full restoration—was completed within just eight hours, minimising disruption while ensuring the installation met all current network and safety standards.
